George Baloghy — 'Capt. Cook - A Fake History'

"Captain Cook looms large over New Zealand history. His fame and epic voyages eclipse all earlier explorers, such as Abel Tasman and Kupe. Cook's life and tragic end are so fantastical that he has assumed the status of mythology. In these paintings I have tapped into this rich vein of fact and fiction, creating my own narrative and in doing so, delivered a unique commentary on history and myth in a 21st Century manner."
